The Augusta-Richmond County Public Library is proud to host the traveling exhibit African American Distinguished Georgia Writers from February 19 through March 23, 2026, at the Headquarters Library.

Presented in partnership with the Georgia Writers Museum and Georgia Public Library Service, this free exhibition celebrates three notable African American writers who lived in Middle Georgia:

• Alice Walker
• Jean Toomer
• Raymond Andrews

Each of these authors has been inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame and has made a lasting impact on American literature.

Alice Walker, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Color Purple, rose from rural Georgia to worldwide literary prominence.
Jean Toomer, author of Cane, drew inspiration from his time in rural Georgia to create one of the most influential works of the Harlem Renaissance.
Raymond Andrews, raised on a Georgia sharecropping farm, crafted powerful stories rooted in Southern life and resilience.

Library visitors are invited to explore the exhibit and check out works by these featured authors during their visit.

This exhibit is free and open to the public during regular library hours.
